Burak Acar was born in 1972 in Izmir, Turkey. He received BS, MS and PhD degrees in EE from Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey, in 1994, 1996 and 2000, respectively. He worked on ECG signal processing and Computer Aided Diagnosis using ECG signals during his MS and PhD studies. He was at St. George's Hospital Medical School, Cardiological Sciences Laboratory, London, UK, between 1998-1999. He worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Stanford University, School of Medicine, Department of Radiology, LUCAS MRS/I Center, 3D Laboratory, Stanford, CA, from 2000 to 2003, working primarily on medical imaging, image analysis and visualization, medical CAD. He has been at Bogazici University, EE Dept. since 2003, where he has founded the BUSIM/VAVlab (Volumetric Analysis and Visualization Group). VAVlab has a working collaboration with Stanford University, University of Erlangen-Nurnberg, University of Geneva, Capa Medical School and Yeditepe University Hospital.
